Timber Roof Truss

day 1.
On the first day we cleaned up the work site and brought out all of the scaffold. When that was done we put on all of the wall plates according to the plan.

day 2.
Today we marked out where the trusses are meant to go on the wall plates at 600 centres and then erected the two outer trusses. We triple gripped them and put a temporary brace on to hold them plum. Then we put a string line from apex to apex as a guide for the rest of the trusses. Then we fixed the rest of the trusses that were to overhang and braced and made them plumb.

day 3.
We then fixed the truncated girder truss on the hip using the other trusses as a guide for its position and triple gripped it. After both sides were done we screwed in the truncated girder brackets to hold up the remaining trusses. We continued the temporary bracing to hold them all plumb and then put on roof battens up the top making sure they were staggered.
after that we put in the saddle truss and butted the jack truss into it. Then put up the two hip truss' and the creeper truss making sure they were all triple gripped. We then repeated this for the other side.

day 4.
Today we checked the plan and cut the eaves accordingly so we could put on the fascia, this is used to carry the gutter. To do this we put on a string line on the eaves to make sure it all lined up. then measured it and cut it to size. After the fascia was on we could put up the valley boards. We had to make sure the valley boards didn't touch the fascia and that they were 400mm wide between the two. We the sighted along it to see it was straight and sitting flat. When that was complete we put up the rest of the battens starting from the bottom and running along the valley boards and then moved up as we went. When i was all complete we packed up and cleaned the site.

In this time we have also learned how to handle roof trusses and how to store them. also occupational health and safety involving roof trusses.
